Welcome to the course

Welcome to ‘Caring for Vulnerable Children’ - a six-week online course being run by the School of Social Work and Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde, in partnership with the Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children in Scotland (CELCIS).

Graham McPheat, Senior Teaching Fellow in Social Work at Strathclyde, will be leading us through the six weeks. Sarah Hume-Anthony is the host for this course and will be helping at the Live Stream Events, managing the Twitter account and keeping an eye on discussions.

If you use social media you can follow us on Twitter @FL_children and use the hashtag #FLChildren to follow the conversations.

We’d also be grateful if you could complete the pre-course survey to help us understand more about who’s taking the course and what we can do to improve it.

Through the course we use the story of a vulnerable child called Billy. So unlike some other FutureLearn courses, we open the course a week at a time to enable us to reflect on the direction our thinking is going in. We also don’t want to spoil our examination of the issues outlined in Billy’s story by giving too much away too soon. We’re very happy to welcome all of you and hope that exciting discussions are generated.
