Skip to 0 minutes and 4 seconds Welcome. My name is Dr Paul Linsley and I’m an Associate Professor in Mental Health Nursing with the University of East Anglia. The following module provides background information on anxiety in children and young people particularly in response to the coronavirus disease COVID-19. COVID-19 has had an impact on all our lives. Children and young people have been affected by physical distancing, quarantines and nationwide school closures. How a child or young person reacts can vary according to their age, how they understand information and communicate their, previous experiences and how they typically cope with stress and anxiety. This module is broken into two parts. Week one looks at normal anxiety.

Skip to 0 minutes and 57 seconds Week two looks at the impact that COVID-19 might have had on children and young people and their ability to cope with the stresses and strains that this has placed on them. Please be aware that this is a rapidly evolving situation and the information presented in this module is subject to change. The information provided is a summary of the best available evidence and guidance up to the 27th of May and is based on the UK government’s guidance for parents and carers on supporting children and young people’s mental health and well-being during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
