Introduction to the course

I’m guessing you are interested in my course because you heard machine learning and big data so much. And whenever you tried to learn a little bit about big data and machine learning, you always ended with some combination of programmings and statistics and mathematics. Yes, it sounds very complicated to get started. My goal here is to help you navigate how you can use machine learning and big data to solve the problem you have. So, the purpose of this course is to help you understand what these terms mean to you. Hi, my name is Youngju Nielsen. I am a professor at the Graduate School of Business, Sungkyunkwan University, here in Seoul, Korea.

I have been teaching about big data, machine learning, and algorithm here for our business school students. Now, I like to share the part of our course to help you to understand the essential concepts. Although, you might not become a data scientist, it is crucial to know how you can use data science to solve the problems. Over the next four weeks, I’ll help you to take the first step, and no worry. It will be a lot easier than it sounds. And of course, it will be very beneficial. In this course, I’ll present few problems that you will often see around you. Then I will explain to you what kinds of machine learning algorithm can solve these problems.

I’m sure that you will feel a lot more excited about these topics, and might get motivated to learn more later, after this class. Let’s start.
