Summary of week 3

Video of week 3 summary.

Welcome everybody, congratulations for finishing week 3. In this week, we discussed regulating artificial intelligence and this idea of social manipulation. And we talked about these conflicting ideas of wanting technology to develop. And at the same time we don’t want technology, the risks of technology to hurt us. And all of this, without knowing how the technology will develop. Then we talked about autonomous weapons systems, and autonomous driving systems, and this idea of A.I. and social manipulation, and manipulating elections institutions, and then profiling. So what I’d like you to leave with in this week. Is this idea of what one author describes as hacking the mind?

We’re Gathering more and more data about ourselves, and we discussed how there could be thousands of data points that are being gathered, and these data points are only growing. And the use of artificial intelligence, to analyze that data, and to use it to manipulate our behavior even our thoughts, hacking the mind as the author suggests. And we slightly talked about this idea of free will, and the impact on free society and democracies. And is it through this manipulation, through this profiling, and through these influences on us, and on 3rd parties? For example, how they policing us? Is there a threat to our free will to democracy? So I have no answers yet.
