Welcome!

In this video we give a short overview of what you can expect this week.

Welcome to Week 2: Concepts. In this part of the course we will be looking at reducing climate change impacts in our buildings, towns and cities through a series of different lenses.

The ultimate goal is a shared understanding of low-carbon building across disciplines. A key part of this is to impart insights into why reaching net zero carbon as quickly as possible matters so much. We’ll also look at how net zero is linked to concepts around circular economy, increasing nature and biodiversity, enhancing our health and wellbeing, and improving the socio-economic metrics for the people that live and work within the built environment.

As we saw last week, reducing carbon emissions is crucial to the future wellbeing of people on the planet – the consequences if we don’t are dire and having knowledge about decarbonisation means you will be able to create greater impact. If you are not aware of what is projected to happen if we don’t decarbonise – and quickly – then you will get an understanding here.

We will explore a variety of key concepts, such as ‘net zero carbon’, ‘whole life carbon’, and scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions.

Let’s get started!
