Educators for the week
In this video, Professor Karen Ousey, Professor Rose Cooper, and Professor Finn Gottrup introduce themselves. They will guide you through the topics of week 1 which will cover the following main areas:
- Introduction to wound management
- The rationale for wound management
The overall lead for the course is Professor Karen Ousey, Professor of Skin Integrity and Director for the Institute of Skin Integrity and Infection Prevention at the University of Huddersfield. She is a member of NHS National Wound Care Strategy, chair of the International Wound Infection Institute, past academic editor for Wounds UK and is an editorial board member for the Journal of Wound Care.
Professor Rose Cooper began to investigate the microbiology of wounds in 1992, which led to an interest in the efficacy of topical antimicrobial agents. She has also been investigating the potential of bacteria recovered from wounds to form biofilms and searching for ways to limit biofilm formation. She was a Professor of Microbiology at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Rose has contributed to several books, some television and radio programmes and has been an invited speaker at conferences in Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, Slovenia, Turkey and the USA.
Professor Finn Gottrup is a specialist in anatomy, general surgery and surgical gastroenterology. He is Professor of Surgery at the University of Southern Denmark. He is the founding member and former president of EWMA and European Tissue Repair Society (ETRS). In 1991, Prof. Gottrup was awarded the world’s first professorship in wound healing and he became Professor of Surgery at the University of Southern Denmark in 2003. Finn has published extensively and been an invited speaker at conferences all over the world in relation to wound healing, infection, and how to organise wound management.
