What is EWMA?

An introduction to the European Wound Management Association (EWMA).
6.8
This is a short presentation on the European Wound Management Association, also called EWMA, and the presenter is Finn Gottrup. The European Wound Management Association, started in ‘91, and its an umbrella organisation for all the domestic wound healing societies in Europe. This slide shows in more detail what has happened in EWMA given time. EWMA has a lot of focus areas. One of the major ones is education, but we also are looking at the lead in the evidence-based debate. And we also have a group which is focusing on wound care centres. EWMA has been working together with the EU, especially related to the development of antimicrobial resistance. And we also have a strong promotion of science and best practise.

And one of the topics, or three of them right here, are actually focusing on the topics, which are the theme for this course. EWMA, in relation to the topics, have a lot of publications. And these publications can be freely downloaded at the EWMA home page, which is shown here. During time the EWMA has developed. If you’re looking at the EWMA conferences, you can see the participants has increased tremendously. Also, the representation of countries has increased. And finally, also the scientific presentation numbers. The last slide in this session is actually focusing on the publication for the EWMA group on antimicrobial stewardship. This publication is made between a collaboration between the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, BSAC, and EWMA.
