Beginning to approach sustainability

In this video hear from our course contributors about a variety of approaches to implementing sustainability in your life.

In this video hear from our contributors about how they would define a meaningful approach to sustainability and some of the ways that they try to implement sustainable practices in their lives.

As our contributors mention there are many different and conflicting ways you can begin to approach sustainability, from how you manage your homes and energy consumption to changing our habits around technology use. Equally, there is sustainability in the social sense, understanding what activities we as a society can sustain and how our relationships develop.

As Hunter highlights sustainability is intrinsically linked to time, as we consider the life-span, impacts and relationships we have with technology and how they develop and change over time. Sustainability is also contextual and situation-dependent, and as Francisca and Hutner highlight it’s up to us as individuals to define our own approach to sustainability and how radical we want that approach to be while being sure that our approach is inclusive of marginalised voices.

Discussion Prompt

In the comments section below we’d like you to respond to what the contributors have shared. Are any of the practices they highlighted something you’ve already implemented in your own life? Perhaps what they have shared has made you reconsider some of the things you do day to day? Equally, are there any other practices that you’d like to share that didn’t come up in the video?** Share your feedback and ideas with other learners below.
