I use BIM because I can see that it can make people’s jobs easier, it can make people more efficient and can save a lot of time and money. One of the best aspects of BIM is visualisation. For me, I don’t really question why I should use BIM because it’s just, I just accepted it. We don’t need as many staff when working on a project that uses BIM. That has a positive impact on our savings. There are also efficiencies that can be gathered by performing exercises such as clash detection, various types of analysis, so our estimators are beginning to use BIM because it’s more accurate and it’s faster.
And also, we are looking into whether we can check building compliance, so we can compare a model against building regulations and see if it fits. I think the best thing about BIM is having that ability to visualise the building at very early stages of the design. Also visualise the potential clashes that might happen between the architectural layout, the structural layout and
also the MEP and the building services layout. So, it’s a great, great tool to visualise and understand any clashes that might happen between the various systems and components that make up a building. It’s also a great tool to report data, to collect data, to understand our components of buildings. Data are the best thing that can happen with BIM because if we have a model of our building after we complete the design and after we complete the construction, that can be quite helpful for the owner because he will have information about all the equipment, lighting elements, plants and so on.
So, with a single click, they can get information about their equipment which is really helpful and also that model can be updated so that even in 20 years they can still have the data about the project.

- Improving coordination in the building sector and therefore reducing delays, costs and extended construction periods.
- Helping construction professionals share the information of a project effectively.
