About Week 2

Read a short text outlining what will be covered in Week 2.

Welcome to Week 2 of Climate Action: Tackling the Climate Crisis for a Better World.

In the previous week, we’ve come to understand what’s at stake in the climate crisis, why we urgently need to act and why all of us have a role to play.

This week is all about what specific changes we can make to tackle the climate crisis and secure a better future, and what you can do to make these changes happen.

We will start by exploring basic options for tackling the climate crisis, and ethical considerations around these. You will learn about the main sources of emissions and apply a powerful framework for exploring the full spectrum of emission reductions options. You will use a simple tool to calculate your personal carbon footprint and explore ways we can all help reduce our impact, both individually and at a societal level.

We will then dive into more detail for five key sectors:

  • transport,
  • food,
  • buildings and households,
  • energy,
  • businesses, organisations, universities and schools.

These sectors are crucial for reducing emissions, while also playing a key role in our daily lives. We have choices around the food we eat, how we commute or travel and how much energy we use in our households. Moreover, many things could be improved in the broader systems we use, such as transport, agriculture, energy and organisations. You’ll explore ways to cut emissions in these sectors and discover positive changes already underway.

We recommend that you explore all sectors to find out how things could be improved in different areas of life and society. However, for Activities 2-5, which cover transport, food, buildings and households, and energy, you can just focus on the sectors that interest you the most if you’re short on time.

We do strongly encourage all of you to explore Activity 6 on business, organisations, universities and schools though, as they are such an important part of our daily lives. This activity provides you with the opportunity to create your personal action plan for your business, organisation, university or school.
