About Week 3

You will read a text that introduces Week 3.
Welcome to Week 3 of Climate Action: Tackling the Climate Crisis for a Better World.

This week, we’ll explore the fascinating world of climate communication, policy debates and misleading discourses. Building on what you’ve learned so far, this week will equip you with the skills to navigate and engage effectively in these important debates and to use communication as a powerful tool for change.

We’ll begin by exploring how to communicate about the climate crisis in ways that resonate and mobilise action, addressing mental barriers and leveraging the power of storytelling and the arts.

Next, we’ll look at some of the hot debates and contested areas in climate discourse. These include pressing policy issues like the role of technology, the idea of green economic growth and what happens to jobs and livelihoods in the transition to a low-carbon world. You will engage with an opinion piece that reflects some of the most common and often problematic ways in which these issues are discussed in the media and in public debate.

Finally, you’ll delve into misleading arguments and delay discourses that are unfortunately commonly used in climate debate to undermine climate action, learning to identify misleading claims and respond to them effectively.

By the end of the week, you’ll be well equipped to engage in the hot debates of climate discourse. You will feel more confident to respond effectively to opinion pieces or social media posts, and to use communication to inspire people and help drive meaningful change.
