Your Personal Action Compass (PAC)

Read a short text that introduces the idea of a Personal Action Compass and the three different dimensions to map your priorities and motivations.

Over the past few weeks, you’ve gained insights into the types of changes and actions needed to tackle the climate crisis.

You’ve examined the actions people in different countries are already taking, as well as reflecting on the roles you might play in driving these changes.

Now, it’s time to bring it all together by creating your Personal Action Compass (PAC). A PAC helps you reflect on the changes and actions that are most exciting, meaningful and feasible for you. It guides you in determining how you want to contribute to building the better future you’ve envisioned. As you create your PAC, you might find it useful to refer back to your vision and story of change. Have them ready to refer to as you decide what you plan to do.

How does the Personal Action Compass work?

The PAC is a tool that maps your priorities and motivations across three dimensions.

1. What’s most important in your context

What changes and actions are most urgent, meaningful or exciting to you in your local context? Here, you can draw on the many possible or needed changes and actions that you’ve learned about and applied to your context. Your vision and the story of change that you produced earlier this week can serve as a key inspiration.

2. What groups and campaigns already exist

What groups, campaigns or initiatives related to these changes or actions already exist in your context? Joining with others can make your actions more impactful, make you feel connected and supported, and can make it easier for you to get started.

3. What makes it fun or feasible for you

What makes an action or activity enjoyable or achievable for you? This could include your skills and interests, or opportunities to take action together with friends or colleagues.

By exploring these dimensions, you can create a PAC that best suits your context, aligns with your passions and strengths while connecting you to opportunities for collective action.

Creating your PAC

Over the next steps, you will build your PAC bit by bit, with each step focusing on one of the three dimensions mentioned above. You can find the PAC template and instructions if you want to create your own version in the Downloads section.
