Set Up for Azure Labs

.
Azure Notebooks is a free service that provides Jupyter notebooks along with supporting packages for R, Python and F# as a service. This means you can just login and get going since no installation/setup is necessary.

The labs in this course will be in Python, and you can use Azure Notebooks for your environment, but there is no stopping you should you want to use your own local environment, or any other platform.

Preparing for the Labs

Importing GitHub files to Azure Notebooks (or your local environment):

Our GitHub instance is here: https://github.com/MicrosoftLearning/Research-Methods-for-Data-Science-with-Python

To set up Azure Notebooks as a clone of this GitHub repo:

  1. If you do not already have a Microsoft account, go tohttps://signup.live.com and create one.
  2. In a browser, and if you do not already have a free Azure Notebooks account, go tohttps://notebooks.azure.com and sign up for one using your Microsoft account.
  3. Once you’re logged into Azure Notebooks, simply import a new library from GitHub–instructions are here: https://notebooks.azure.com/help/projects/creating/import-from-github and you should be good to go.
  4. Once you have imported the GitHub repo to your new library, run the library and explore the LabFiles folder and get a sense of how the files are structured. The notebooks and datasets should be useable and downloadable after cloning.
