Sample Data

Some sample data is provided with your Power Platform subscription to get familiar with the system and help with training and on-boarding.

This step will show you how to enable or remove that data.

Sample data gives you something to experiment with as you learn Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement apps and the Power Platform CDS apps and helps you see how data is organised in the system. Sample data can also be helpful for demonstrating applications.

In addition to the sample data discussed in this topic, if you are a partner you can also find demo instances that have data at demos.microsoft.com.

Common Data Service Sample Data

When you create a new CDS environment you can choose to include sample apps and data at the time of creation.

Dynamics 365 Sample Data

For CDS environments with Dynamics 365 applications, if sample data isn’t already installed on your system, you may want to add it for training purposes. Later, when you’re ready, you can remove it.

It is recommended that you never turn on sample data in your production system, use a sandbox or a trial instead.

From the classic interface:

1. Make sure you have the System Administrator security role or equivalent permissions in Dynamics 365.
2. Go to Settings > Data Management.
3. Click Sample Data. You’ll see a message that tells you whether the sample data is currently installed.
4. Do one of the following:
   • Click Remove Sample Data and then click Close.
   • Click Install Sample Data and then click Close.
