Week 2 Practice Listening Exercises

Six sets of practice listening exercises will now follow– three focussing on level and three focussing on panning as follows:

• Practice Set 2A (Level): Identification of Level Changes @ 4dB Resolution for Individual Sources and 8dB Resolution for Sources in a Mix
• Practice Set 2B (Level): Identification of Level Changes @ 3dB Resolution for Individual Sources and 6dB Resolution for Sources in a Mix
• Practice Set 2C (Level): Identification of Level Changes @ 2dB Resolution for Individual Sources and 4dB Resolution for Sources in a Mix

• Practice Set 2A (Panning): Identification of Panning Changes @ 30% Resolution for Individual Sources and 80% Resolution for Sources in a Mix
• Practice Set 2B (Panning): Identification of Panning Changes @ 20% Resolution for Individual Sources and 60% Resolution for Sources in a Mix
• Practice Set 2C (Panning): Identification of Panning Changes @ 10% Resolution for Individual Sources and 40% Resolution for Sources in a Mix

These practice listening exercises have been designed to develop your ability to identify level differences in decibels applied to individual sound sources, level differences applied to sound sources in the context of a mix, stereo image differences applied to individual sound sources, and stereo image differences applied to sound sources in the context of a mix.Start sequentially with Practice Set 2A (Level) and when you feel confident that you are performing well and consistently, proceed to work through the remaining practice sets. You can revisit these practice listening resources as often as you wish in order to prepare for the week 2 listening assessment.
