Introduction to data

Data includes facts and stats, collected historically or in real-time, then cleaned, visualized, and analyzed for insights.

In this unit we explore the concept of data, presenting it as a collection of facts, statistics, or information that surrounds us in various forms. We’ll also look at what other areas we’ll be covering in the course.

We use the example of a smartwatch counting steps to illustrate how raw data, such as the 2,000 steps walked on a specific date, can be transformed into useful information through processing and analysis. Further, we distinguish between two main types of data: quantitative and qualitative, expanding the introduction to historic and real-time data as well.
