Welcome to our first expert interview, where we explore the concept of popular transport, also known as informal transport, in the context of emerging cities.

In 2021, Andrea was recognised as one of Latin America’s most influential women in the transport sector by the Inter-American Development Bank, and in 2023, she was honoured as one of the “Remarkable Feminist Voices in Transport” by Women Mobilize Women.
The conversation highlights the common characteristics and challenges of urban mobility in these cities, such as a lack of investment and planning, a knowledge gap, and unequal distribution of services. It emphasises the importance of understanding and integrating popular transport into the overall transport system rather than trying to replace it. It also discusses the data gaps and the need for better data collection to improve the planning and design of transport systems.
