This week we have looked in detail at the issues currently facing the construction sector with a particular focus on the under-representation of particular groups and the increasingly concerning skills gap that is threatening the sustainability of the industry.

We’ve explored the impacts of the lack of representation in the sector from the point of view of the organisation (reputation, managing skills gaps, lower productivity) and from those that are under-represented (what barriers look like, how exclusion feels, toxic work environments). We’ve considered, and discussed, real experiences via case studies and interviews.

Next week we will be looking at what we can do, collectively and individually, to address these issues and help deliver the change that is needed to make the sector more productive, profitable and welcoming.
