Welcome to an Introduction to Personal Development

Welcome to an Introduction to Personal Development

Our people in the NHS and the wider health and social care system have experienced monumental change as we each respond to the global pandemic of Covid-19. It places enormous strains on the whole of our workforce and challenges our leadership skills but also highlights the incredible talent within us all.

Together we have been achieving the extraordinary. We want to harness those insights so that we can work together to deliver ever better care and improve everyone’s experiences of working in health and social care.

To do this we need excellent leaders. Our Leadership Way commits us to develop leaders that are able to deliver this and more.

This course is an introduction to the development and learning from the NHS Leadership Academy and serves as a foundation for the Edward Jenner leadership development programme.

Although this course is part of a wider leadership development programme it is open to anyone who wishes to get the most out of their learning experiences.

We know that leaders who succeed and make a lasting change in their leadership practice are prepared. This introduction course will help you prepare to make the most of your learning opportunity.

We will explain what ‘leadership development’ is and how you will learn. We will encourage you to think about the areas you see as important for your own development and plan to create around you an environment that is safe and will support you to grow.

Designed with workplace learners in healthcare and medicine, business and management in mind, this course will explore how to maximise your learning and create space and time in a busy schedule.

The course is spread over 2 weeks, with approximately 3 hours of online learning required each week. There are a series of activities that introduce theories exploring how you learn. You will be asked to take this learning into your workplace, apply it to everyday situations and reflect on these experiences in the online discussion forum.

At the end of the course, you will understand the process and levels of learning and development, the challenges of learning for lasting change, how to articulate a learning goal and how to get support in your workplace to continue your learning and development.

We’re excited to support your development and for you to join a growing community of peers on a similar path! Please take a moment to introduce yourself in the discussion area.
