Learning at Coventry

Coventry University believes that a good student experience is central to learning at a world-class standard. To reflect our success we were recently awarded the title of University of the Year by Times Higher Education and the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. We aim to produce learning that is both innovative and cutting edge with a supportive environment to ensure student success.For that reason we have created these courses that offer students a chance to learn in a flexible manner. Through online delivery we offer an engaging and dynamic experience.We have teamed up with FutureLearn to offer students world-class courses with all the rigor and support offered in our face-to-face courses but with the ability to study in a manner best suited to your needs.This is the first short course in the Integrated Emergency Management: Policy and Issues program which forms part of Emergency Management and Resilience online MSc at Coventry University.The program is made up of 10 weeks of study (five two-week short courses), taught on FutureLearn, followed by an assessment (details of which can be found on the program pages available to all those enrolled on the program.In addition to the courses in FutureLearn, learners enrolled on the program also have access to live tutorials, student support sessions and further study resources and services.

Capturing your thinking

A great way to get the most out of your course is to consistently capture your thinking. Exactly what you choose to record will be different for everyone, but it will probably include your notes, useful resources and reflections on your progress.We call this collection a ‘learning log’. The aim is to allow you to regularly look back on what you’ve learned and articulate your thoughts and feelings about the experience. A learning log is informal and can be kept private. However, in the spirit of social learning, you’re encouraged to share as much of your work with your fellow learners as feels comfortable.It’s up to you how you record your log entries but you might want to consider:

• Offline in a notebook
• Blogging and journaling tools, such as Blogger, Tumblr, Wix and WordPress
• Online note-taking tools and apps, such as Shrib, EverNote and Google Keep

If you’re a registered Coventry University student, you also have access to Microsoft OneNote as part of Office 365. You can find out more about this in your induction.
