Preparing your own emergency plan

Making your own emergency plan

In previous steps you have discussed many of the stages required in the development of an emergency plan. Now we would like you to prepare an outline basic framework of your own plan.

Your task

For an organisation or community that you are familiar with, prepare an outline emergency plan to address the most important risks using the following structure:
1. Define the plan
  • the scope of the plan
  • the risks the plan is intended to address
2. Propose a structure
  • the emergency response
  • the roles and responsibilities
  • the actions that would be taken to manage the emergency
3. Maintain the plan
  • implementing and ensuring buy-in
  • maintaining
Note: capture the key points for each section – do not go into detail.
Share your plan in the comments section and take a moment to read and comment on some of the plans developed by your fellow learners.
Please provide comments in a positive, encouraging and constructive way as you would expect other learners to do for you.
Aim to comment on the following aspects of the plans:
  • The coherence of the approach.
  • How well risks are addressed.
  • How well the plan can be maintained.
