This week you have learned how European identity has been formulated for particular encounters with modernity. You have been asked to discuss your own understanding of modern and observe expressions of modernity around you. In case studies of equality and urbanisation, you have seen how modernity is realised in a very concrete way and what are the positives and negatives that arise from these realisations. Next week, you will examine the nation state, which is, of course, one of the more interesting byproducts of modernity. You will learn about the formation of a nation state in Europe and about its transformation in the context of European integration.
