Now we’ve introduced you to video interviews, it’s over to you to score some! Similarly to the CVs you scored earlier, you’ll use a matrix to decide which video you think scored higher, and what score to give each one.

The videos

There are three candidates who have sent you a video to score – Candidates 1, 2 and 3. Again, they have applied for the Business Development Executive role we mentioned earlier. They’ll remain nameless for anti-bias purposes. You can watch the videos as many times as you’d like before you score them, but keep an eye and ear out for the indicators. All candidates were asked the same prompt, ‘Tell me about a time when you demonstrated your initiative’ and were given up to 60 seconds to think of an answer, and up to 2.5 minutes to record their answer.

You can find the videos in the next three steps.

Scoring matrix

You’ll find the scoring matrix for these videos here: Video Scoring Matrix (as well as an attachment at the bottom of the lesson) – this is slightly different to the CVs, so take a few minutes to review the matrix before going onto the videos.

You’ll also be scoring them out of 1/3/5 instead of 1-5, so you have fewer numbers to choose from! Don’t let this deter you from picking the extremes, as you can’t always score the middle if you’re unsure.
