How AI shapes recruitment practices

Learn from Lucy Boyes of Beyondly about how AI is used in recruitment and why human review still plays a vital role in evaluating applications.

Lucy Boyes, a representative from Beyondly, an environmental consultancy, shares her insights on how AI is integrated into their recruitment processes in this film.

AI serves as a preliminary screening tool, evaluating applications against ‘killer criteria’ such as graduation date or location. However, it is not the ultimate decision-maker.

Lucy emphasises that while AI can flag certain applications, every application is ultimately reviewed by a human. This means your efforts to craft a thoughtful and tailored application are crucial. Interestingly, Lucy observes that some candidates who scored lower in AI assessments performed exceptionally well in later stages and even secured the job.

This highlights the importance of balancing AI-friendly formatting with substance in your application. Rather than over-optimising for AI, focus on creating an application that resonates with both the technology and the human reviewers. A well-tailored CV and application can make all the difference in showcasing your potential beyond the initial AI screening.

By understanding how AI functions as part of the recruitment process, you can better prepare your applications to stand out at all levels of evaluation.
