What is abnormal ageing?

In general, depression in the elderly is often harder to diagnose than in younger individuals, as it frequently manifests through physical symptoms or pain.

There are various risk factors for depression in the elderly, such as genetic predisposition, physical illnesses, medication effects, and personality traits, all of which can contribute to the symptoms of late-life depression.

Dementia is a syndrome rather than a single disease. There is a transitional period between normal ageing and dementia known as mild cognitive impairment, which is considered an early manifestation of dementia. We can assess the likelihood of dementia by evaluating cognitive function, daily living abilities, and mental symptoms.
