What are healthcare institutions doing?

What are healthcare institutions doing?

In this video we will her from Dr Toseef Din. She is the CEO of M.P. Shah Hospital in Kenya. They have achieved amazing things through the teamwork and dedication of the M.P. Shah hospital staff and community.

  • The M.P. Shah hospital is located in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • It was founded in the 1930s
  • It is a tertiary level, 217 bed referral hospital
  • It has 1000 staff

In this video Dr Din talks about her motivation for Green 365. She lives in a beautiful country full of trees, greenery, beaches and wildlife. She also makes the statement that:

“healthcare is defeating the Hippocratic Oath of “first do no harm”, by contributing to climate change through excessive waste generation and green house gas (GHG) emissions”,

and asks the questions

“How many trees does a human need to we breathe?”

  • A human breathes 9.5 tonnes of air in a year
  • Only 21% of air is oxygen and we only extract a little over a third of that oxygen for use

A human breathes 740kg of oxygen per year, seven to eight trees worth

  • In 2021 the earth’s population was recorded at 7.888 billion. Therefore, humans need at least 63.104 billion trees!**
  • Did you know that 1 tonne of paper equals 17 cut trees!**

What do you think about Dr Din’s motivations?
