Can and should we work with industry?

In the video above Professor Hugh Montgomery tackles the question of whether we can and should work with industry?

• He believes that we should ‘absolutely should work with industry’.
• The majority of our carbon footprint as individuals and organisations are within the Scope 3 emissions. Therefore, there is a limit to how much we can achieve as individuals to reduce our carbon footprint in our daily lives.

Professor Hugh Montgomery is an intensive care consultant at the Whittington Hospital, and a Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at UCL, where he also directs the Centre for Human Health and Performance.

• He’s published nearly 600 scientific research articles and has won several national and international awards. Hugh Montgomery has co-chaired the two Lancet Commissions on Human Health and Climate Change, and the Lancet Countdown on Health & Climate Change.
• He’s written and lectured extensively on the subject; has briefed policymakers internationally and been involved in many of the international ‘COP’ negotiations.
• Professor Montgomery leads the children’s climate education ‘Project Genie’ and co-led the ITV documentary on Floods and Climate Change (2020).
• He has also founded the non-profit ‘Real Zero’, and was awarded the OBE in 2022 for his work on climate change and health.
