Summary of week 2

Summary of week 2
At the beginning of week 2 we walked through a patient’s surgical carbon footprint journey together and looked at ways in which we could reduced the environmental impact of his healthcare pathway.

We also looked at how nations, healthcare, industry and individuals are mitigating the effects of the climate crisis and explored some of the issues associated with waste and procurement.

Towards the end of the week we explored some of the myths and legends regarding plastic recycling and ‘greenwashing’ and heard from Professor Hugh Montgomery about whether we can and should work with industry.

We hope that you have enjoyed week 2 and that it has wet your appetite for week 3!

In week 3 we will open the week with hearing patient and healthcare professional views on environmental sustainability and their healthcare. Together we will have the opportunity to hear form some of our colleagues about the fantastic and inspirational projects they have undertaken, their motivation, challenges, successes and top tips.

We will explore some of the things to consider when choosing your own sustainability projects and share with you our experts’ guidance and advice on undertaking a successful project in our ‘how to…’ section. We will close week 3 by looking at some of the steps we can take to shape healthcare for a more sustainable future.

We look forward to empowering you in week 3.
