Today we will learn how to use frequency “time”, indicating the number of times an action has taken place.

New words

虽然 suī rán conj. although

in Chinese “虽然……但是……” are always used together, you can remember them as a whole. For example:

虽然外面很冷,但是房间里很热 。Suīrán wàimiàn hěn lěnɡ ,dànshì fánɡjiān lǐ hěn rè 。

次 cì time

玩儿 wánr v. to play, to have fun

Language points

The complement of Frequency “次”

“次”is usually used after the predicate verb, indicating the number of times that an action has taken place. Subject+V+过+num+次+O

For example:

我们看过三次电影。Wǒmen kàn guò sān cì diànyǐng 。

他在这个商店买过一次东西。Tā zài zhè ge shāngdiàn mǎi guò yī cì dōngxi 。

大卫去过两次北京。Dàwèi qù guò liǎng cì Běijīng 。

Pay attention, when the object of the verb is a place, such as 北京,the complement of frequency can be put either before or after the object. You can say:

大卫去过两次北京。Or 大卫去过北京两次。


And when the object is a personal pronoun, such as 你我他,etc, the complement of frequency must be put after the object. For example:
