How to say something is going to happen in Chinese

“要……了” means that something is going to happen. And we can use “就要、快要、快” instead of “要” in this sentence structure.

New words

日 rì n. day, date

今 天 是 五 月 六 日 。Jīntiān shì wǔ yuè liù rì 。

or you can say

今 天 是 五 月 六 号 。Jīntiān shì wǔ yuè liù hào 。

新年 xīnnián n. New Year

过新年 guò xīnnián to celebrate the new year

中国 新年 Zhōnɡɡuó xīnnián /春节 chūn jié Chinese New Year

票 piào n. ticket

火车 票 huǒchē piào train ticket

火车站 huǒchēzhàn n. railway station

Language points

the structure “要……了”

“要……了” means that something is going to happen. And we can use “就要、快要、快” instead of “要” in this sentence structure.

For example:

新年要到了。

新年就要到了。

大卫快要回国了。

快考试了。

Pay attention, if there is an adverbial of time in the sentence, only “就要……了” can be used. For example:

下个月大卫就要回国了 。Xià ɡè yuè Dàwèi jiù yào huí ɡuó le 。

我们明天就要考试了 。Wǒmen míngtiān jiù yào kǎo shì le
