Preview a very short text

In this activity, students can practise the skill of previewing. They practise by previewing a very short text in only 15 seconds time.

In the previous video you learned that Step 1, previewing your study material, is a very important step. And that’s why we are going to do an assignment to practise that skill.

A preview gives you an overview of the material before you actually start studying. Just remember: You don’t need to read all the material of the previewing page, because you don’t need to understand the material.

Assignment

You are now going to practise previewing with the text below (“Decision-making Processes”).

  1. Make sure you have a blank sheet of paper at hand so you can jot down any words from the text that you think are important.
  2. Set a timer for 30 seconds, and try to have finished your previewing before the alarm goes off. It’s good to know that when you get more experienced, the previewing of this text can even be done in less than 15 seconds! But for now, to give you the first experience in previewing, allow yourself a bit more time.
  3. Now open the attachment and ready, set, preview!

Good luck!

In the following video you can see how our students got on and we’ll show you an example of a good preview.
