Last week, we explored the lives of George, who has Down’s syndrome, and Vinita, who has cerebral palsy. You considered their individual needs and abilities, and how they are supported to reach their full potential in leading fulfilling lives.

You engaged in a matching activity in which you made links between needs and preferences identified in the two case studies, and explored potential support strategies or adjustments to meet these needs and draw on areas of strength and ability.

This week, we continue with our focus on our four characters. You will explore further the lives and experiences of Holly and Akia in order to develop an understanding of the nature of their SEND needs related to both the medical and social models of disability. We will explore ways in which Holly, who has dyslexia, and Akia, who has autism, can be supported at home and in educational settings.

Katie, one of the students from the BA Learning and Teaching programme at the University of Leeds, also shares her experience of being a student with dyslexia.
