Preparing for next week

A summary of Week 3.

Well done – you have completed Week 3.

In Week 3, we focused on good practice in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) support by exploring the experiences of Holly, with a diagnosis of dyslexia, and Akia, who has autism. You considered how their needs are met at home and school, and how to capitalise on areas of strength and ability.

You explored the lived experience of a person with dyslexia, and students on the BA Learning and Teaching with SEND programme at the University of Leeds discussed their own practice supporting learners with SEND requirements, both in educational settings and at home.

In addition, you considered an educational and home environment in identifying ways in which the physical environment can be adapted to meet the needs of individuals.

In the fourth and final week of this course, you’ll explore the support provided by a range of SEND organisations and providers, enabling you to engage with your local and national SEND community. By doing this, you can connect with both other people interested in SEND and with professionals working in this area.
