Hello everyone, and welcome back to week two. Last week, we looked at the growing problem of antimicrobial resistance in the health care setting. We introduced the microbes that cause infections, and we explained why some microbes - the bacteria can be treated with antibiotics but more importantly, where other microbes, such as viruses, should not be treated with these drugs. This week, we will focus on how infections, including antimicrobial resistant infections, can be acquired and spread. We will cover the chain of infection and also think about the hazards and risks that contribute to the spread of infections in general, and the infections caused by antimicrobial resistant bacteria in particular.
