The European ambitions for offshore wind energy
In this lecture, I will discuss international ambitions for the development of offshore wind energy. The offshore wind resources in European waters are illustrated.
Learning outcome.
Understand present global ambitions for development of offshore wind energy.
Understand that available wind resources are limited by several factors.
Understand the order of magnitude of the ocean areas needed for the present development plans.
After having watched the video, reflect upon the following questions:
- In your opinion, what are the main obstacles for EU towards the 2050 aim for offshore wind energy?
- Which factor may influence the need for ocean area needed for the planned wind farm developments?
- What kind of conflicts do you foresee in realizing the European ambitions?
