Introduction to offshore wind energy

Cristian Guillermo Gebhardt and Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui from University of Bergen welcomes you to this introduction course in Offshore Wind Energy

Welcome to this introductory course in offshore wind energy.

Are you working in the business of fossil fuels or the offshore supply industry, in politics, media or as a civil servant? Maybe you do not have any technical background and just need to know how offshore wind energy basically works? Then this is the course for you.

It is offered by the Bergen Offshore Wind Centre at the University of Bergen, and does not require any special background from the field of offshore wind energy.

Norwegian targets and ambitions for offshore wind energy

Norway has set a target of 30 GW offshore wind energy by 2040. This is a target for the installed capacity as well as projects in the development phase. We are thus going to build an offshore wind energy system of similar size as our hydropower system in less than 20 years! This will require a major upscaling of the capacity and competence within all aspects of offshore wind energy in the years ahead.

This course plays a small part in the big shift towards more renewable energy, but we hope that it will give you that first push to explore more.

From all of us – enjoy.
