Please take some time to read this article, The reproductive biology of the porbeagle shark (Lamna nasus) in the western North Atlantic Ocean

This study collected porbeagle shark specimens caught in the western North Atlantic Ocean for reproduction study. The porbeagle shark occurring in the Atlantic Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean, a kind of lamnid sharks (a.k.a. mackerel sharks) belongs to the order Lamniformes that is the only order behaving aplacental viviparity with oophagy. Sample specimens used in this study were observed, measured, and examined to determine parameters of reproduction such as size at maturity, mating season, parturition season, gestation period, reproductive cycle, litter size, and size at birth.

This paper shows a reasonably complete work on reproduction biology of large shark species. The section ‘Materials and methods’ should be read carefully. It describes clearly how to observe and measure specimens, and define several conditions of reproductive phenomenon.
