Learning Outcomes for the Course and Week 1
These are the learning outcomes for the Course and for Unit 1.
Course Learning Outcomes:
By the end of your studies on this course, you should be able to:
- Describe the different definitions of the Rule of Law
- Evaluate which definition of the Rule of Law you prefer
- Explain how the Judiciary are separate from the Executive
- Explain how the Judiciary uphold the Rule of Law using judicial review and human rights law
- Reflect on the effectiveness of the Judiciary in upholding the Rule of Law
Week 1 concentrates on understanding the Rule of Law itself – as you will see, there is no formal definition of the Rule of Law.
Week 1 Learning Outcomes:
By the end of Week 1, you should be able to:
- Explain what is meant by the Rule of Law and appreciate the importance of the principle
- Understand the different interpretations of the Rule of Law, and determine which definition you prefer
- Identify potential breaches of the Rule of Law by examining some examples
