These are the learning outcomes for Week 2.

Week 2 develops your understanding of the Rule of Law by looking at how judges in the UK uphold some of the key principles of the Rule of Law.

Week 2 Learning Outcomes:

By the end of Week 2 you should be able to:

  • Explain the role of judges (“the Judiciary”) in the UK, and how they are separate from the government and associated agencies (“the Executive”) and Parliament (who make the laws of the UK – (“the Legislature”)
  • Understand how the Judiciary uphold the Rule of Law in the UK
  • Identify potential breaches of the Rule of Law by examining some real life examples, and evaluate the effectiveness of the Judiciary in taking appropriate action in response
