These are the Learning Outcomes for Week 3.

The focus of Week 3 is on criminal law and human rights in the UK – you will recall that observing human rights to protect individuals was one of Lord Bingham’s key elements of the Rule of Law, so is understood to form part of the Rule of Law in the UK, but this is not necessarily accepted by those who follow Raz’s approach.

Week 3 Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this Week you should be able to:

  • Explain how the Rule of Law protects those who are accused of a crime
  • Understand the meaning of human rights, and how the Judiciary of the UK uphold the Rule of Law by protecting human rights
  • Identify potential breaches of the Rule of Law by examining some examples
