Improvising on "Blue Room" using one scale
The reason I chose “Blue Room” as our first standard is because you can simplify things greatly. Indeed, if all else fails, you can just improvise on the scale of F major. Let me see if I can persuade you of that. You’ll get some tensions, but the tensions will release and it won’t sound that hurtful to the ears. Let’s just try playing - I’ll more or less move up and down the F scale, so it won’t be very musical, but just to give you an idea that it’s possible. OK, don’t forget our 4 bar introduction.
