I was born in a village, that is the dimension I belong to. For me the big city was always dream, a mirage; today my city is Milan, because it’s only 35 minutes away, and when I feel the need to go there, it’s for the Zeitgeist. I prefer going to Milan rather than to Zurich, probably because Zurich is defined more by its Nordic culture, whereas I am attracted to the culture of the Mediterranean; but the yearning for a city remains. Even if you live in a village, you know there is a reference city. Recently I was in Regensburg, where

I asked some people: “What is your reference city?”, because it is near Prague, but also near Münich, and I always like to understand what is the

nearest reference city; and they of course said: “Münich”, because of the German culture, and so on. In any case, the city remains… even if you never go to it, a point of reference.
