Week 4: Experimenting with Data – Data Cleansing, Analysis & Visualisation

Welcome to Week 4, the final week of this course!

This week is all about getting hands-on with Excel and data. You’ll be doing a huge amount of experimenting as you apply everything you’ve learned so far. From cleaning messy datasets to exploring data through statistics and visualisations, this final module will help solidify your skills in data preparation and analysis.

This is a self-directed learning experience, meaning you have the flexibility to work through the content at your own pace. There will be no in-person activities, but you will have access to interactive resources, guided exercises, and reflection prompts to reinforce your understanding.

Learning Objectives – Week 4

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

Understand basic/foundational data cleansing techniques.
Conduct exploratory data analysis using summary statistics.
Perform visual data analysis to extract meaningful insights.

Key Topics – Week 4

This week, we will explore:

Basic Data Cleansing
– Standardising column headers.
– Ensuring consistent data types and formatting.
Removing duplicates and handling missing values.

Exploratory Data Analysis in Excel
– Introduction to basic Excel functions for data analysis.
– Using the Data Analysis Toolpak to generate summary statistics.

Visualising Data

How to Make the Most of This Week

Since this is a self-directed course, take some time to:

☑️ Engage actively—clean, analyse, and visualise datasets using Excel.
☑️ Reflect on what you learn—consider how data cleaning and analysis impact decision-making.
☑️ Set your own learning goals—experiment with Excel functions and practice interpreting insights from data.

**This is your final opportunity to apply your skills—so dive in, experiment, and have fun with data! **
