Mindfulness for developing empathy

Watch Neil provide an overview of the impact of mindfulness meditation on our brain and how that helps us manage our levels of compassion and empathy.

NEIL BAILEY: There are a couple of parts of the brain that manage compassion and empathy, in theory at least. Mindfulness meditation has been associated with growth in the temporal parietal junction. And one of the functions of that brain region is to take the perspective of other people. Another thing that mindfulness meditation seems to do is develop the prefrontal cortex, which controls our attention. And when we have a bit of attentional control, we can focus our attention on seeing the good in another person, for example, rather than potentially being frustrated by them.
