第一個是營養吸收。營養物質為我們的身體提供能量,使我們能夠成長,活躍健康。換句話說,食物的第一個功能是讓我們活著。

第二個是滿足我們的心理需求。食物能提供味道和風味,所以可以影響人的感覺和行為。他舉了一個巧克力蛋糕的例子,你可能會覺得蛋糕很好吃而食用,但蛋糕本身並非身體生存上的必須品。
