Specific clients at risk when we provide nutritional information

There are specific clients that are more at risk when we provide nutritional information, some common groups to remember are:

  • Pregnant or lactating women
  • Very underweight, overweight or obese
  • Impaired glucose tolerance, impaired fasting glucose or strong family history of type 2 diabetes
  • Type 1 or type 2 diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease, renal disease or liver disease
  • Food allergies and intolerances
  • Diagnosed with, undergoing treatment for, or recovering from cancer
  • Frail or elderly
  • Mental illness
  • High intensity and high volume exercise or sport
  • Other health conditions affected by nutrition.

In all the cases of specific or at risk populations mentioned above, you must ensure that clients are referred to an appropriately qualified allied health or medical professional including but not limited to; Dietitians or Sports Dietitians for nutrition advice.
