Future Career Detective

It’s time to move on to the first activity and for you child to become a career detective.

Your child should understand some basic concepts on how jobs will be impacted in the future of work. In this activity they will interview someone close to them, a relative or a family friend and uncover how the Fourth Industrial Revolution is impacting their industry/company/role today and in the future.

The goal is for them to be able to answer all the questions in the worksheet. Aside from yourself this will give them another example of how careers can change and an opportunity to put their newfound knowledge from your conversation in the previous step to test.

Some prompts :

• How long have you been in your current role/previous role?
• Have your roles been in the same sector?
• How has your sector changed in the last 20 years?
• How has your sector changed prior to you starting work?
• What might your sector/role look like in the future – will it even exist?
• Are there any positive/negative effects to this evolution?

From now on, we will use worksheets for your child to complete. All the worksheets will be attached as files, including:

1. The worksheet template to complete.
2. An activity guide with some basic concepts and tips to complete the worksheets.
3. An example worksheet already completed for you to have as a reference.

When your child has completed this task, you can have another conversation with them and see what they have learnt.
