Wrapping up: The Stuarts

The second half of the 17th century saw many significant events that affected royal and wider fashion. By the very end of the century ‒ after regicide, restoration and a further revolution ‒ we start to see fashions and styles that will come to dominate the next century: the mantua and the three piece suit.

Like the Tudors, the Stuart dynasty in Britain lasted for just over 100 years. The 18th century would belong to the Georgians, or the House of Hanover, and while some of the styles might look familiar, this was a family that would set their own fashion rules.
