Key insights

Wrap-up for the first week, "Korea's development experience"
I hope this week’s discussion has been interesting and you’ve learned something new. Let’s recap.

  • Korea’s development was possible because many different factors worked together such as effective and timely foreign aid coupled with a strong leadership and policy framework and governance focused on economic development, and culture or tradition of social cohesion to name a few.
  • Thus, It would be hard to replicate what Korea has done. Applying a set of seemingly effective strategies would not produce the same results because of complexity of a nation’s economy and underlying social structure.
  • One useful approach would be systems thinking. We are going to talk about briefly in week 5.
  • Key insight from this week would be as follows.

“People” is the goal (reason), instrument, and source of power at the same time for Korea’s development. Therefore, mindset and determination (for betterment) of the very people who need and want development are most important.

What would be your topic sentence that captures the essence of this week’s discussion from your point of view? Why don’t you share yours down below in the comment box? It’s going to be very interesting!
