Wrapping up the week

At the beginning of the course we reflected with you on what it takes to be a great supervisor, and what competencies are needed to carry out the exciting and important task of guiding a student in their trajectory toward becoming an independent researcher and completing and defending their dissertation.

You are not alone in this important task, as you share this important responsibility not only with the student, but also with the co-supervisor(s), as well as with the graduate school and / or the institution you are part of. We hope that you have made good use of our tools and tips on how to clarify expectations with your co-supervisors.

You now have a clear idea of what are the most important moments and the typical phases of the PhD trajectory, starting from the selection process, the foundational first year, the evaluation moments, and all the way through the final stretch and the defence of the thesis. We concluded this week with some inspiring views on how you can support the future career of the PhD candidate, not only after the conclusion of the trajectory, but throughout.
